‘PUNTERS’

A BBC Radio 4 programme where members of the public investigated personal injustices.

In March 1989 Stephen Shipp investigated the 1982 armchair treasure hunt ‘The Golden Key’ by Don Shaw whose status was unclear and the £50,000 prize apparently unavailable. The publishers had gone into liquidation with 1,000’s of unsold copies; Don Shaw had suspended the hunt for 24 hours as it was then held a contract in perpetuity; and then sold the copyright to Lionel Hooke. Shaw said the key was still buried and the hunt still on, and a week later Hooke said it was not and there was no money.
