CABMEN’S SHELTER MEASURED DRAWINGS

( TOGETHER WITH A HORSE TROUGH AND HANSOM CAB )

I did these drawings for the Victorian Society / Architect’s Journal / Wiggins Teape measured drawing competition in 1978.

I measured the shelter in Kensington Road, on the south side of Kensington Gardens; the Metropolitan Drinking Fountain and Cattle Trough Association horse trough in Bayswater Road; and a Hansom Cab in a museum. All the shelters vary in their details, and the Kensington Road one was subsequently restored.

Needless to say I never expected to (and did not) win, but I was complemented on my section through the Welsh Cob cab horse! The drawings are now in English Heritage’s National Monuments Record Archive in Swindon, who can supply copies.
